Get Away

Get Away (R. Daglish)
Been down before but not no more
Gonna get away, (get away)
Been down before, now I’ve levelled the score
Gonna get away, (get away)
Into the Sunshine
Into the Moonshine
It’s the chance of a life time
Gonna get away, get away
Gonna get away
Been snared by love and caught by hate
Trapped by the things I call my fate,
Get Away
Now I’ll get away, gonna get away
Been fooled by my fears and my secret desires
Stood and watched as the walls grew higher
Get Away
Now I’ll get away, gonna get away
Into the sunshine
Into the Moonshine
It’s the chance of a life time
Gonna to get away, Get away

A House In Brentwood

A House in Brentwood (R. Daglish)
I grew up in a house in Brentwood,
And the river was our backyard
Lawns were green and the streets were clean,
Under suburban stars
We came into Freo on a big ship,
Me, my brothers and our Mum
Dad had shot though after the war,
I never want to meet that bum
Later us boys were sent to Fairbridge,
They called it charity
We’d see Mum once a month,
On a visit down by the sea
And so I spent me birthdays,
Six, seven, eight, nine, and ten
‘Til at last those days were past and,
And Mum took us home again
So I lived in a house in Brentwood,
It was state housing then
And they sent us off to get some schooling,
But it all went wrong again
I found I couldn’t hack it,
I left; I was too young
Headed up north to make my own way,
But the damage was already done
And I worked in the mines,
And I drank in the pubs
I and drove through the bush,
And I camped in the scrub
And I moved back to the city,
But I couldn’t hack it again
And I crawled inside a bottle,
Though I don’t remember when
Now I live in a house in Brentwood,
It’s a refuge for some men
And I haven’t had a drink,
Since I don’t remember when
And if seems like it wasn’t so long ago,
When the big ship first did come
And we lived in a house in Brentwood,
Where the river runs
I grew up in a house in Brentwood,
And the river was our backyard
Lawns were green and the streets were clean,
Under suburban stars

Love Junkies

Love Junkies (R. Daglish)
Look out boys cause they’re coming to town, Love Junkies
You better not get caught when they come around, Love Junkies
They’ll take all your love and hide it away
Save it for a fix on a rainy day
Love Junkies, Love Junkies
They’ll take you away to their silken room, Love Junkies
They’ll wrap you up in a silk cocoon, Love Junkies
They need all your lovin’ just to feel alright
It helps keep them sustained on their emotional heights
Love Junkies, Love Junkies
Baby, baby, baby don’t you treat me this way
You tear out my heart and you throw it away
Love Junkies, Love Junkies
They’ll have you crawlin’ cross the kitchen floor, Love junkies
They’ll take all you got but you’ll keep coming back for more, Love junkies
They’re so sweet when you hold them tight
They’ll take you in your arms and make you feel alright
Love junkies, Love junkies
Baby, baby, baby don’t you kindle my desire
I’m just another sacrifice on your love pyre
Love junkies, Love junkies

The Road And Horizon

The Road And Horizon (R. Daglish)
There’s a Road and horizon
That’s where I’m driving
‘Til the dust and scrub hides where I’m coming from
I’m not looking back
Got nothing to hold me
Just want some time out on my own
Well the buildings all are crumbling
And the city’s steaming jungle drives me
Crazy with the people, and the heat
She was like a drink of water
But she’s the Devil’s daughter, with a
Poison kiss from lips that looked so sweet
I thought she was divine
Until she touched my mind
And tried to set her demons loose on me
But I broke her crazy spell
And fled those gates of hell
Taunting voice echoes behind me
And still the scars remain though I no longer feel the pain
And on my own there’s nothing that I miss
And the roads in front of me and I’m liking what I see
Where the sky meets the horizon’s shimmering kiss
There’s a Road and horizon
That’s where I’m driving
‘Til the dust and scrub hides where I’m coming from
I’m not looking back
Got nothing to hold me
Just want some time out on my own

Dystopia (R. Daglish)
Dystopia
Why you looking at me
Dystopia
I got nothing you need
I got nothing you need
You’ve been following me around
Like some crazy clown
With a bag of tricks and broken dolls
You got a lot of gags
To try and make me laugh
But you know that’s not the way I roll
Dystopia
Why you looking at me
Dystopia
I got nothing you need
I got nothing you need
I’ve heard your tales before,
Dystopia
From a mouth with teeth like broken glass
You’re like an open sore
Dystopia
You need to leave, your time has past
Dystopia
Why you looking at me
Dystopia
I got nothing you need
I got nothing you need
Why you looking at me?
I got nothing you need

The Devil's Road

The Devil’s Road (R. Daglish)
Been shearing up north for three months now, Away from my wife and kids
And the boys in the team are good company, don’t remind me of what I did
The lads will cut the shed out soon, back to Wandearah I’ll go
Unless I keep my head down, and sign on for the Devil’s road
It will take you High, It will take you low
Put your head twixt your knees, kiss your arse good bye
We’re off on the Devil’s High, Road
I could away tomorrow, No more to be seen
On a ship back to my old homeland, Or somewhere in between
I could walk the moors of Scotland, or the bars on Orchard Road
If I don’t go back and face my fate, but sign on to the Devil’s Road
And I’ll not stay in Australia, Not Adelaide or Perth
No goldfields town, Will make me frown, I’ve booked an outbound berth
I’m out of the stinking shearing sheds, I’m done with clearing land
I’ve broke my back, working like a hack, in this god forsaken land
It will take you High, It will take you low
Put your head twixt your knees, kiss your arse good bye
We’re off on the Devil’s High, Road
It’s the Devil’s Road, that’s promising, and shines in front of me
When things are tough, you’ve had enough, it’s easy enough to see
No need to scrape no longer, No need to stick around
Just take the Devil’s highway, and head on out of town
It will take you High, It will take you low
Put your head twixt your knees, kiss your arse good bye
We’re off on the Devil’s High, Road

On The Homeward Run

The Homeward Run (R. Daglish)
Red dust hanging in the air
From the tyres of my speeding car
Sydney lies two days behind me
The Nullabor can’t be far.
Speeding through the goldfields now
Abandoned wheat belt ghosts
I’m dreaming of a girl I knew
On the West Australian coast
I’m drifting in another time
I’m swimming in my memories
Fascinations of the past
Let your dreams play a part in your destiny
Knew a girl long ago
Eyes black as obsidian
Gypsy waves dance down the beach
We run, her hair flies in the wind
I’m going back to find her now
To let the dreams renewed begin
I’ve cast aside my child hood fears
I’ve cast aside my sins
Tall and stately stand the trees
Silent witness to the sun.
I’m flying down the Darling Scarp
I’m on the homeward run.
Sweet embrace, the salty taste
Of tears on lips both yours and mine
With pounding hearts we ride the waves
And passion spent lie dreams entwined.
I’m drifting in another time
I’m swimming in my memories
Fascinations of the past
Let your dreams play a part in your destiny

Wittenoom (Dougie's Song) – (R. Daglish)
He was still on his feet when they took him away
And the wind bowed the crown of the trees that day
Ripple on the pool, a stone sinking low
We journey to the stars, we ebb and flow
A pinpoint of light, the night all a-glow
We journey to the stars,
We ebb and flow
Never was a fella, who liked a punt better
Eye for the horses, and a nose for the wind
Numbers would dance, on the end of his fingers
Sparkling eye, and his wild madcap grin
To work and to toil, was the lot of the clan
Tall to the small, everyone lent a hand
Two feet and a heartbeat, upright and breathing
Working till dawn, the sunlight breaking
Trees crowned with glory, the rocky escarpment
Towns and the stations, the mines working hardy
Dust hanging brightly, the motes all a-sparkling
Still she calls me, she still calls to me
He was still on his feet when they took him away
And the wind bowed the crown of the trees that day
Ripple on the pool, a stone sinking low
We journey to the stars, we ebb and flow
A pinpoint of light, the night all a-glow
We journey to the stars,
We ebb and flow
